Toronto mayor Rob Ford has been plagued with scandal over the last few weeks. The mayor has admitted to drinking and driving, and smoking crack cocaine during his time in office. On Friday, the Toronto City Council voted to strip Ford of some of his powers, including the ability to govern in times of emergencies and the power to appoint committee chairs. The mayor's own brother is encouraging him to take a leave of absence, but Ford says he will finish his term and run again.
"I completely understand where my colleagues are coming from and I would've supported what they're doing in my situation. I have to support myself, and i think anyone in my position would've done the same," Ford said on Friday.
Ford has said that he will fight against the council's vote in court, even though it will cost taxpayers a lot in legal fees.
