The public shoreline swimming area at Tygart Lake State Park's beach has been closed for almost seven years now, but big renovations are happening there that are giving the lake a beach make-over.
What's happening is an extensive over haul of the lake's swimming area. The old steep concrete beach has already been removed, which leads the way for a new sandy beach to be put on the shore line.
Just last week the beach house was completely renovated inside and out, and now crews are working on the picnic area, which will include several grills, picnic tables, and even a bocce ball court over looking the lake.
The beach will also be handicap accessible for all families to enjoy. Park officials say are excited about the future this development is sure have on the lake, and in our area.
"We actually saw a decrease the day we closed our swimming area. We had cancelations in our cabins and our lodge, and we haven't totally recovered from that. It adds another aspect of outdoor recreation that that the children don't have. They can swim in a swimming pool, but lake swimming is unique in itself." said Brennon O'Sullivan State Park Superintendent.
The beach at Tygart Lake is set to make its grand re-opening for you to enjoy over memorial day weekend of next year. Make sure to stick with 5 news for the latest updates on the beach project.
