Volunteer Police Thanked for Hard Work in Bridgeport

The city of Bridgeport thanked their Volunteers in Police Service Tuesday night.

A dinner was held at the Benedum Civic Center, where the volunteers and their families were able to have a relaxing meal. Over the last couple of months especially, they've been giving back to the community, leaving their families and putting in their own time to work in nasty weather.

They even went door to door during that nasty heat wave this summer, making sure residents were alright. Officials say these VIPS take a weight off other emergency personnel's shoulders, and their service is priceless.

"We just want to take a special time to let them and their families get together and just have a period where it's not work, it's not responsibility, it's just a chance to let them know how much we appreciate how much they give back to the community," said Shaunda Rauch, the city's emergency services director.

If you'd like to join the VIPS call the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-581-5100.
