West Virginia Board of Education President Wade Linger released this statement to 5 News Saturday afternoon regarding the State Education Audit:
"I look forward to the release of the West Virginia Board of Education’s audit response on Wednesday. A healthy discussion can be expected regarding significant education reform proposals.
Meanwhile, I see four primary areas of focus.
1. Increasing student achievement must become the top priority.
These are statistics that must be turned around.
2. It is paramount to revitalize the connection with local school systems and build mutual trust.
3. We need to move forward on reforms suggested in the West Virginia Board of Education’s audit response with a true commitment to change and transparency.
4. Recommitting to building a communication structure between the West Virginia Board of Education, the West Virginia Department of Education, the Governor’s Office, the Legislature and teacher organizations must be a focal point.
