PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department official says tests have found the West Nile virus in some mosquitoes in the area.
Interim regional epidemiologist Jessica Woods says there have been no reported cases of West Nile cases or another mosquito-borne illness, La Crosse encephalitis.
But Woods tells media outlets that residents should take steps to protect themselves against both illnesses.
Woods recommends the use of insect repellent when outdoors. People also should remove standing water around their homes to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
