When it comes to the Italian Heritage Festival, tradition is very important, and for Italians, bocce has been a family staple for years.
Saturday was the 3rd annual West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival bocce tournament at the Ferguson Memorial Park in Shinnston. Nearly 40 participants competed while many others were in attendance.
A cash prize was awarded to the winners and many medals were given out.
"It's just a traditional game, so it's something that we like to keep, to kind of keep the traditions and the culture. We want to try to do as much as we can to preserve that and celebrate it," said Festival Coordinator, Lindsey Lowe.
Saturday was just bocce, but next weekend will be filled with the pasta competition followed by the actual festival in two weeks.
