There was no spell-check needed Wednesday night in Bridgeport as students from nine counties participated in the RESA VII Regional Spelling Bee.
The contest featured the talents of 46 students in grades 4-8. Each of the participants had successfully made it through qualifying spelling bees at their school and county level.
Wednesday night's winner will move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., which will be televised nationally in late May.
"They're working on their academic vocabulary, learning correct English usage and they're extremely intelligent, the ones we have here tonight. If you look at some of these words, I don't think half the adults could pronounce them or even spell them for that matter," said Jeovanna Lacaria, RESA VII director of curriculum and instruction.
Congratulations to Louis Aldridge from Harrison County who won the competition.
