A Doddridge County road was blocked off Sunday night after a tanker rolled over into a creek, spilling some fuel into the water. However, the drinking water is safe.

A Department of Environmental Protection spokesperson said the driver tried to pull over to let a car pass on Meathouse Fork Road. The shoulder was soft so the truck rolled into the water. The truck was carrying friction reducer, which is used by oil and gas companies for fracturing. Luckily, none of that spilled. Some of the engine fuel did end up in the creek. Crews were on scene with absorbent pads Monday collecting that.
The drinking water in the area is safe. West Union Water Service did shut down a water intake when the accident first happened but reopened it Monday morning after the water was determined to be clean.
