UPDATE (7/7):

More details are emerging on an apparent assault from over the weekend in Monongalia County.

Investigators aren't commenting on the victim's identity, but family members told 5 News that he is Keith Hilliard. He goes by the name Coy.

Deputies responded to the Morgan's Run area of Cheat Lake on Friday, where Hilliard was found. Deputies say he may have been assaulted.

Hilliard was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. His family says that Hilliard was having surgery on Monday to work on facial reconstruction.

Hilliard has been alert and communicating. However, he's unable to talk about what happened, because he has a breathing tube in.

The ATV Hilliard was on at the time is missing. It was a yellow, 2003 250 Trailblazer ATV.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department at (304) 291-7260.
