UPDATE 1/25/2013 1PM:
More information has been released about the standoff between police and an Upshur County man Thursday night.
Police say they were originally called to the scene in reference to a hunting accident. A witness told police that 27-year-old Edward Williams had said his brother was shot, but that was later determined not to be true.
Officers were then called to a report of a burglary in the area. Williams had allegedly broken into two separate homes on Booney Hull Road, took firearms and threatened people inside one of the homes. Police say he then took the home owner's truck and put his 2-year-old and 8-month-old son inside. Several officers arrived at Booney Hull Road where a standoff began.
Officers were able to persuade Williams to turn the two children and himself over to law enforcement. Several buildings, residences and the stolen vehicles were damaged. Nobody was injured during the incident. Williams also allegedly admited to being on synthetic drugs.
Edward Williams is in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail charged with grand larceny, two counts of burglary, two counts of child neglect, breaking and entering, and felony destruction of property and more charges are pending.
His bond is set at $500,000.
State Police in Upshur County are investigating.
Our reporter at the scene tells us a man has been taken into custody. No one was hurt.
ORIGINAL STORY 1/24/2013:
The Upshur County 911 Center has confirmed a potential hostage situation in Adrian. Right now police are trying to make contact with a man who has two kids in a truck on Booney Hull Road, right off of Abbott Road.
Authorities got a call around 9:00 Thursday night for a reported gunshot wound, but emergency crews found nothing.
It's unclear if the man has any weapons. Police took a woman and a teenager from a home in that area. We're told the man is driving back and forth between the home and a nearby gas well.
