UPDATE: February 28, 6:15 p.m.
Police said 39-year-old Brian Hage got into an argument with a 15-year-old boy on Monday.
Supposedly, at some point, he grabbed the boy's arm and tried to get him off a seat at a cafeteria table. The boy fell into an adjacent table before Hage took him to the ground in a submissive position. He did eventually help the student back into the chair.
The incident was caught by a surveillance camera.
Hage was released on bond.

It's a shame we can't get a look at that tape. Even though he obviously did commit a crime....I'd be willing to bet the kid was a, "PROBLEM." It probably was a problematic child that taunted, bullied, and talked back. Who lacked respect for not only their peers but authority as well. Would LOVE to see that video. :)

With all the teachers talk of wanting to do drug testing and everything on kids; how about we start background and drug testing on teachers/principals??? Search how many teachers have abused and sexually assaulted kids in schools. BIG PROBLEM HERE!

Its great to see a biased news outlet that deletes public opinions. Just because we disagree with an opinion doesn't mean WDTV should delete it.

It really doesn't matter what Mr. Hage's experience or professionalism was prior to this event. An attorney will focus on the event and the injuries that were a result of it. The law is very clear.

I cannot support Mr. Hage. And I will gladly tell you why. It was liberals that took GOD out of our schools. They took prayer out; spanking out and now they wonder 'why' our kids are not respectful to those who are deserving. It's what they wanted and it's what we got. THIS happened very rarely when I was in school because these things were still allowed then. About junior high school, liberals took all these 'decent' things out of our schools and each year kids got more and more brave in the nasty things they did. Children KNEW they could not be spanked and they weren't taught morals and decency any longer. Today, liberalism teaches them that their own parents cannot spank them either. And they wonder why 'parents' cannot control some of their children. Until we undo these disastrous liberal things and put it back into our schools and leave PARENTAL rights to parents and not governmental entity DHHR; nothing will get better. So therefore since the liberals voted for these things.......even Mr. Hage must obey these perverted laws that caused it. No parent can touch or spank their own child; therefore why would I be okay with a principal or teacher touching a child? I wouldn't!!

I am so glad to see so many in agreeance with what Mr. Hage had to do to control the situation at the school. Children fear NOONE!!! I remember when getting in trouble at school or misbehaving was embarrassing and came with consequences, which is why I stayed out of trouble, in addition to being taught better. This saddens me and my hat's off to Mr. Hage for standing up for the children and staff! I don't even know what happened that day other than Mr. Hage's actions, which I'm sure were needed. Without the whole story, I'm for Mr. Hage and I hope he realizes just how many people stand with him!

This is the second day I have added a comment in support of Mr. Hage and it still is not on the site, he needs our support now not a week after the event. This is in regards to the story about the Washington Irving Assistant Principal Mr. Brian Scott Hage being accused of child abuse charges in the incident that occurred on 02/28/2013. It is a shame that a conscientious educator’s reputation can be soiled because someone misconstrued his reaction to a volatile situation as “child abuse” and an infringement on that child’s “rights”. When does an individual’s “rights” become paramount over the teacher’s responsibility to keep the environment safe and wholesome as possible for all students and staff? I am writing in support of Mr. Brian Scott Hage because it is the right thing to do and because I have faith in his handling of the situation at the school. I have known him for the past 20 years and he has always possessed the type of moral character and leadership qualities that others might strive to achieve but few possess. His military service taught him how to act and react in very stressful situations and his educational background proved his desire to help others achieve their potential through his example. If all parents were as mindful of their responsibilities to teach their children the morals and ethics that form a child’s character instead of relegating that responsibility to the educational community this episode may never have occurred.

These kids have no respect for authority and the whole story needs to be told, alot of facts have not been told. The School Board should be standing behind him and showing their support, shame on them. All the School Board Members need to be ousted as well they are just worthless! If the community doesn't get behind the schools and discepline these kids who are out of control its just going to get worse. Bring back paddling, use the court system instead of out of school suspension, thats what they want not to be in school. WE NEED CONTROL AT THESE SCHOOLS!!!! WE ARE BEHIND MR. HAGE!!

This is a shame and a disgrace for our school system that a child is allowed to attack other children and teachers and then the adult protecting the others is charged with abuse. The charge of rick of injury should have been laid on that child. How backward can we get? What scares me even more is how many other children will try the same stunt if this child tries the same thing and then someone innocent gets hurt? I have to wonder how parents would feel if they really knew how many violent children are in the school system and allowed to be in classes with their children. It is happening.

I think it's a shame that authority figures are not permitted to take unruly children in hand these days! The law arrested the principal for trying to bring control, but the student??? He's probably laughing right now and will most likely do something like this again; and why? .... Because he can get away with it. What has happened to this country?

I can understand where the Vice Principal was coming from, but he needed to be professional in dealing with this student!

I use to work in different schools for 13 years and seen how students act, they are rude and ill mannered, and they want to talk bad, they have no respect for people in any way!

They should be checking the kids background to see if they have had trouble with him/her before.I think this is alot of BS because what person in tthier right mind would do that to a kid unless he/she was causing troublwe

KIDS NOW DON'T HAVE RESPECT FOR ADULTS. What should the teachers do let the kids do what they feel like doing because thats whats going to happen because they will be afraid of getting arrested. BRING back spankings i know i didnt do anything wrong in school because I was afraid of getting paddled. That kept me in line.
