United Hospital Center Occupational Therapist Ginny Vincent joined 5 News to kick off a special series in Health Alerts. This series will focus on West Virginia's battle against obesity. Even if you're not considered overweight or obese, you can help join the fight by spreading the word and helping a loved one who might be.
In this segment we will discuss:
The numbers we face in our state are scary, especially compared to the rest of the nation. What are we up against?
Let's define being overweight and being obese.
Dieting isn't the only factor in losing weight. You need to couple it with exercise. Why is it so important to combine the two?
The hardest part about starting an exercise program is just that starting. So what barriers do those who are overweight and obese face?
How much should these folks exercise?
Every Friday in November will be dedicated to a different part of this fight. Next week we'll talk with a local dietitian about healthy diets.
