We know Black Friday shopping applies to malls and big box stores. We checked out some local small businesses to see how things were on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
Valerie Howe, the owner of Howe Cute in Clarksburg, said she chose to close down this Black Friday since she didn't have any customers last year. However, Wicked Sisters next door and Embellishments right around the corner were open.
Owner Cathy Goings said although they can't really compete with big stores for Black Friday deals, she still had business.
"I noticed this year that we had a little earlier crowd. I don't know if it's because people go out at midnight now rather than 5 a.m. in the morning but we were busy this morning. Typically we get busy later but this year it seems just a little different and I attribute that to the stores opening at midnight," said Goings.
Wicked Sisters, Embellishments, Embellishments Too and Howe Cute will be open for Small Business Saturday. There will be deals for shoppers at those boutiques.
