Police made an arrest Friday afternoon in the "brutal beating" in Anmoore from over the weekend.
Sheriff Albert Marano said that 23-year-old Anthony Cartagena is facing multiple charges after he beat and sexually assaulted a 30-year-old woman outside of the post office. Using surveillance video, police were able to see the two walking towards the post office around 7:30 Sunday morning. Cartagena is then seen walking away a short time later by himself. It was about two hours later when the victim was found beaten and naked. She's still in intensive care at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
"Due diligence is obviously very important in these type of case. To get a person like this off of the roads and the streets and out of the community because, this type of attack, if it happens to one person and it goes unsolved, then chances are it's going to happen to another person someday down the road," said Sheriff Marano.
Cartagena is charged with first degree robbery, malicious wounding, sexual assault in the first degree and assault during the commission of a felony. He's in the North Central Regional Jail with a $200,000 bond.
Sheriff Marano said that the case is still under investigation. Deputies and officers from the Anmoore Police Department are working together on it.
