A dance last month in Harrison County raised thousands for a scholarship fund that's trying to put more police officers on the streets.
The Bridgeport Police presented $12,500 to the Hotsinpiller family. This was all raised at the Rick K. and the Allnighters benefit held at Village Square in October. All that money is headed to the James and Derek Hotsinpiller Memorial Scholarship Fund. It helps provide scholarships to Harrison County students who are going to college to be police officers or follow other careers in the social services fields.
"The help and the support of the community and the board members and the selection community has made this a lot easier for us to not only deal with the loss of Derek, but to bring some good from that situation," said Derek's brother, Dustin.
Four new students will be receiving the scholarship at the end of this school year.
