The Harrison County Commission met Thursday and one of their main topics was the Charles Pointe TIF.
We're almost a third of the way through this TIF and commissioners wanted to make sure they're right on schedule. This project is expected to help the economy greatly in the next few years. Usually, sales taxes go into the state's general fund, but this TIF will take the sales tax from the Charles Pointe business district directly into a private fund the county can use for public projects. One of the county commissioners said how this benefits the community.
"It enables us what other wise is rural, un-developable land by using taxes you've created just in that area to further the development. It reduces the cost of infrastructure such as, road utilities and even public buildings. It really allows the development of areas that otherwise wouldn't develop commercially," said Mike Romano, Harrison County Commissioner.
Romano said there are a lot of TIF's going on right now, but he feels this will be a successful one for the taxpayers.
