Construction can cause a real headache for drivers. You may have to go out of your way or in a circle to get where you need to be if a road is shut down. While this may be an annoyance, a lot of times, this is for your safety and the safety of the workers. However, it seems that some drivers in Clarksburg aren't exactly listening to those "Road Closed" signs at Chestnut Street.
Whether you're heading on Chestnut from the downtown side or the Clarksburg Water Board side, there's plenty of warning signs that the road will be shut down. There's even detour signs posted to get you around the part that's closed. Daily, construction crews are working in that area to make the road safer for drivers; however, some certain drivers aren't making it safe for the workers.
Chief Goff got a phone call recently from work crews telling him that drivers are ignoring the "Road Closed" signs and driving around them. That means, they're heading close to the workers on a road that's already tore up. Right now, the road isn't fully barricaded in case emergency crews need to get through. Chief goff said his guys won't be driving it and as far as he's concerned, neither will you.
He said officers will be citing those drivers immediately without any warnings. They'll be checking that area frequently.
