A Clarksburg man, and bank robbery, suspect is dead after he crashed his car during a high speed chase with police in Putnam County Thursday morning.

Officials have not released his name yet, just that he is from Clarksburg. The police chase started around 11:00 a.m. near the Walmart in Hurricane.

Their mayor told WSAZ that police received a call that the man in question was trying to steal several items from the store.

When officers arrived on scene he took off and led them on a chase that hit speeds up to 100 miles per hour. It ended when the driver crashed into a semi parked at the Hurricane rest stop.
