Clarksburg Taking Safety Precautions for Area Near Waldo During Parade

In just a few days, the City of Clarksburg will be kicking off the holiday season with their annual Christmas parade. On Friday, hundreds will line the streets of downtown to cheer on the bands and other groups marching through the city. This time though, one part of the sidewalk may be shut down after bricks fell from an old downtown building last month.

We received an anonymous email from a concerned parent about their kid's safety during the parade.

The city is taking all steps to make sure all participants and parade goers are safe. It may be a game time decision on what parts of Pike Street are open near the Waldo when the drums roll Friday night.

The turning lane of Pike Street near Fourth Street has been shut down since the bricks fell from the Waldo. When that happened, the city made contact with the Vandalia's, who are the owners of the building. They've contacted them again to see where they are on making sure that doesn't happen again. They're still waiting for the paperwork back from them.

"The heath and safety of the public is our number one concern. Right now the turning lane of traffic has been barricaded and has been closed for vehicular and pedestrian traffic and we are currently assessing the situation moving forward up to the time of the parade," said Clarksburg City Manager Martin Howe.

The city will also talk to the Division of Highways before Friday to see what they think is the best decision since it is a state owned road.
