The State Department of Health and Human Resources is facing a tight deadline to give pay raises to state psychiatric hospital staff according to the Associated Press.
A Kanawha County Circuit Judge warned the agency in October that if they don't meet a January 31st deadline they'd be in contempt of court. The DHHR would then face daily fines of $50 per employee.
The order comes from a 2009 ruling requiring them to provide more than a half a million dollars in pay raises. A DHHR spokesperson says the agency won't comment on pending legal matters, but their policy is to comply with court orders.
