"I'm not a monster. I'm not ruthless".
That's what Jeron Hawkins told a Monongalia County jury in between tears on Wednesday.
Jury members were trying to decide whether or not he would be eligible for parole after he was was convicted of First Degree Murder last week.
It looks like they believed him because they granted Hawkins mercy.

Last Friday he was found guilty of shooting and killing Lucas Lee. That shooting happened outside Karma Nightclub in Morgantown last year.
According to testimony in that trial that shooting started after an argument over a spilled drink.
Wednesday afternoon the 19-year-old took the stand and repeatedly apologized for what happened.
Because he was granted mercy that means he could be could get out of jail in 15 years.
However, Hawkins still needs to be sentenced for two malicious assault charges connected to that shooting.
