Last year at this time the folks with the Book Exchange, in downtown Morgantown, were having a tough time keeping gear from the Orange Bowl on the shelf.
Fast forward to Friday, throw in some blowout losses, add in a matchup against a former Big East opponent, and it's though to get Mountaineer fans excited for their team to be in the Pinstripe Bowl.
There were high expectations for the Mountaineers football team following a blowout win against Clemson in last year's Orange Bowl. Early ins the season it looked like they weren't that much of a stretch.
Then came a string of five straight losses, and it looked the Blue and Gold would be lucky to play in any postseason game.
They were able to draw former Big East foe, the Syracuse Orange in the Pinstripe Bowl. That game isn't drawing the same amount of hype that their BCS matchup against Clemson did last year.
According to Chris Belt, the manager of the Book Exchange, he was only able to order one kind of shirt for the game. He also said there said that there hasn't been a demand for Pinstripe Bowl merchandise either.
"The disappointment of starting 5-0 and being in the top five and then losing 5 straight just soured the fan base," Belt said. "Not as many people are as excited about the bowl game this year."
Despite their disappointment, fans like Henry Butcher, believe the Mountaineers will win the game.
