Later this week a lot of folks will be celebrating the Fourth of July. Most people will enjoy the holiday by catching some fireworks.

On Tuesday firefighters in our area gave a brief reminder of what kind of fireworks are allowed in the Mountain State.

Mark Caravasos, the Morgantown Fire Chief, told 5 News that residents aren't allowed to set off any firework that fly, or makes noise unless they have the proper licenses to do so.

Caravasos acknowledged the fact it's easy for some folks to get access to Pennsylvania and Maryland to buy fireworks, which have slightly diffident laws. He warned folks if they're caught bringing the wrong ones back across state lines you can face a lot of trouble.

Caravasos suggested that when it comes to fireworks it's a good idea to leave the show up to the professionals.

"West Virginia's rules basically boil down that it can't fly and it can't go boom," he said. "Anything like bottle rockets, firecrackers, roman candles, and things like that are illegal. It's illegal to own them, posses them, and set them off."
