Some local parents have started a petition to get a new skate park to help give their kids something more to do this summer. But, it hasn't been met with that great of reactions throughout the town.

Just a post on Facebook. That's all it took for a few Grafton residents to start a petition to get a new skate park for their kids.

"Never in a million years did I think it would blow up like this. People are really buying the idea, and I hope that we can do something about it." said J.D. Davis, a Grafton resident who first had the idea of the skate park.

Residents in favor of the park say it's important to them that the city gives the kids somewhere safe to play throughout the summer.

"I'd rather have my child skating at a skate park, where I know he's safe, then dodging traffic in the street. Because it's prohibited on the
sidewalks, there's signs everywhere that's says "no skating, no skating," they have no choice." said Jamie Donnellan, a Grafton resident who started the petition which now has over 50 signatures.

But local officials need to balance out all of the options before a new skate park can be built.

"Whatever is constructed, has to be constructed properly, and designed properly to eliminate any type of problems, or any types of injuries, and to make it safe for the skate boarders." said Grafton City Manager Kevin Stead.

But local kids say all they want is just something fun to do, whatever it is that may be built.
