President Obama's proposals to create stricter laws on gun ownership has gotten some people pretty worked up. But there were many gun owners who came together in Taylor County Saturday morning to appreciate our second amendment rights.

The Gun Appreciation Day Rally in Grafton was a spur of the moment event. The man who organized it told 5 News with everything going on recently he felt he needed to do something.

"I just felt like there was a need for it. For people to get together and discuss what's coming up, their feelings on it. You know, everybody has an opinion," said Dennis Schumaker, Organizer.

The organizers were pleased with the turnout for it being such late notice. They had snacks, guns for sale, and an area for people to
learn more about the issue.

"We have things here. We have NRA membership sign-ups if they want to do that and different kinds of literature on gun control," said Schumaker.

On top of all that, they had a petition for people to sign to express their feelings on importance of guns in the culture of our Mountain State.

"We want the congressmen and our state representatives to understand the feelings of the pro-gun and gun owners in the state. How we stand. How we feel," said Ken Ickes, Employee.

The main purpose of Saturday's event was to let people in the area know about President Obama's plan.

"Let the people aware of what's happening to people's gun rights, what they're trying to do. Some of it is pretty straight forward," said Ickes.

Some of the gun owners told me they're just nervous about what could happen because shooting guns is something they've done all their life.

"Some of us get together sometime and we just shoot hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of rounds at just the targets. It's fun. It's a blast, said Hugh Radcliff, Gun Owner.

Gun Appreciation Day is a national event celebrated across the United Sates. This is only the pro-gun aspect of this controversial debate, but 5 News would like to know both sides of the issue. Leave your thoughts on the comments section of this story.

The radical left need to stop whining about our 2nd amendment right to bear arms and stop attempting to constantly make it harder for us to have that right by using little liberal deceitful ways to make it harder to purchase these weapons or the ammunition for them. We know how these traitors work. They use pricing and other little laws to thwart our rights. They just take your rights away little by little until one day you awake to the fact there is none left. So spread your little deceit wherever you wish; but we are much too smart to believe someone like this president whose done nothing but deceive from the start. He said he wouldn't raise taxes; well now 'everyone' is paying more taxes. He said Obamacare wasn't a tax didn't he? And the SCOTUS and Obama's own lawyer admitted it 'was' a tax. So why would anyone other than a fool continue believing someone so dishonest? We wouldn't and we don't!!!

People need to stop whining about there guns. Obama is'nt trying to say you cant own a deer rifle or a shot gun or even a handgun for that matter, all he is saying is that the gun violence in this country multiplies every year and that there is'nt a need for assault rifles that have 100 round clips. Although everyone knows it only takes 1 bullet to harm or kill someone I for one think it is reasonable to say that a 10 round clip is more than enough for Americans to carry.
