Pediatrician Mary-Ann Kroll from United Hospital Center joined 5 News to talk about the common cold in kids: how it happens, how to fight it, and how to tell if it's actually something worse.

In this segment we will discuss:
  • How can parents tell the difference between the common cold, strep throat, and tonsillitis?
  • Is a sore throat caused by viruses or bacteria?
  • Besides a sore throat what are other common cold symptoms?
  • What are some ways to get rid of a sore throat?
  • Can over the counter medications relieve symptoms of a cold with a sore throat?
  • Let's say a parent has tried the over the counter medicine, but the symptoms aren't going away. At what point do you see a doctor?
