United Hospital Center's Doctor Matt Dunham joined 5 News for our Health Alert segment to continue our series on birth defects, as January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month. Not all birth defects can be prevented but a woman can increase her chance of having a healthy baby.
On this segment we will discuss:

  • Birth defects are often diagnosed after the baby leaves the hospital. Why?
  • On the other hand can you explain how some birth defects can be diagnosed before birth?
  • Birth defects are often linked with genetics but there are other factors that can lead to birth defects. What are they?
