People in 200 countries took part Thursday in the "One Billion Rising" marches to help fight violence against women and girls, and Morgantown was no exception.
Over 100 people walked downtown from the top of High Street to the courthouse plaza, all to benefit three rape and domestic violence information centers in the area.
A candlelight vigil was held at the courthouse along with a special dance for the event. Organizers said violence against women is a disturbing problem in today's society.
"Violence against women and girls is on the increase and it's estimated that one in three women in their lifetime will be raped, beaten up, molested or murdered. Women, young women, young girls need to be taught that true value and to not feel that they're subordinate to their male counterparts," said Britt Klandorf who helped organize the march.
There are 40 donation jars at businesses throughout Morgantown. For more information go to www.onebillionrising.org
