Sunday marked the 32nd Annual Irish Spring Festival in Lewis County.
What better place to be than Ireland for Saint Patrick's Day. Not the country. but Ireland, West Virginia.
"This is Ireland's big even and it's kind of nice because today is actually St. Patrick's Day, so Happy St.Patricks Day everyone," said Tera Craig, Ireland Resident.
They have all different types of events throughout the course of the festival like the parade, crafts, square dancing, and of course
crowning the king and queen
"It just feels great to be able to help the community out. It's just a good feeling to help everyone out," said Joel Bruffey, King.
Even though it was snowing it didn't stop people from celebrating.
"There's been a lot of people here. It's rain or shine we still have the festival. Today i's snowing but we're still going to have the run and road bowling. Obviously if the weather's a little nicer more people will come out," said Craig.
Organizers said they are so grateful for all the people who help out.
"Not just the Ireland community but all the surrounding communities. Everybody pitches in and it's wonderful," said Sandy King, Organizer.
One of the main attractions is the blarney rock. But how did it come about?
"Ireland had a blarney stone, maybe we should have a blarney stone. And someone who's lived here all their lives said we already have one. We have this very large rock that's above the community and we all visited it and it's perfect. We thought we can't call it blarney stone since that's in the country of Ireland so we have our blarney rock," said King.
The festival is always known as a family friendly event.
A lot of people do make it a homecoming, they grew up here and come back to se their family and friends so it's nice. Everyone around here wears their green all the time and for a week we celebrate, so we just hope everyone had a wonderful time.
