While construction continues on the Lewis County Courthouse Annex, plans are also still in the works for safety inside.
Commissioners will be working with the judge and the sheriff's department to determine how to hire courthouse security. Some thoughts are to hire two full-time guards and two part-time ones. Like most other counties' guards, they do want them to have police experience.
The new annex should be done by June 1, so commissioners want to make sure that at least the head of security is hired in enough time to be trained.
"With the different people coming in and out, with the different kinds of legal proceedings going on in the courthouse, it's necessary for law enforcement or some type of security to be there to protect the participants, as well as the general public coming in for those types of proceedings," said Commission President Pat Boyle.
Commissioners will be working on the salary and job description in the near future.
