MATEWAN, W.Va. (AP) - A Mingo County man is being held on $50,000 bail after officials said he suffocated his infant daughter in drugged stupor.
The Charleston Gazette reports that 21-year-old Albert Moore of Matewan passed out Thursday after smoking crack and taking a prescription painkiller. He is charged with a felony count of child abuse in the death of his 7-week-old daughter.
According to Mingo County sheriff's deputies, Moore told them he took the drugs before he fell asleep with his daughter in bed. When he awoke, the infant was unresponsive.
Moore is being held in Southwestern Regional Jail. A booking clerk said Friday she did not know if Moore had an attorney.
