21 out of 22 schools our area were either closed or running on a delay on Thursday.
The only exception was schools in Monongalia County. That had a lot of parents very upset.
Dr. Frank Devono, the Superintendent of Schools in Mon County, said that he had officials out checking the roads at 4 o'clock. He said he also checked in with the Department of Highways and saw the latest weather reports, which called for the snow to stop Thursday morning.
Devono said that's how he come to the decision around 5 o'clock to go on with school as scheduled.
5 News heard from angry parents who were slipping and sliding along the roads Thursday morning.
Officials at MECCA 9-1-1 said there were about a dozen accidents between midnight and 10 a.m.
The most noteworthy accident was one involving one of the county's school buses. Officials said a pickup truck slid into a bus at the intersection of Point Marion Road and Stewartstown Road. That crash happened around 7 o'clock and no one was hurt.
Devono said luckily all the kids were able to make it to school safely. He mentioned given all the information he had at five o'clock, when they made decision to go on with school normally, it seemed like a good idea.
"Do I want to second guess my decision in relationship to that?" Devono questioned. "Sure. I'm always critical of my own self and whether or not I made the right decision. Given the set of circumstances a delay might have been more appropriate. I'm not really sure."
