Most consumers feel optimistic about what's going on with all the Marcellus and Utica shale drilling that's going on in the tri-state area, according to one poll.
Seventy-five percent of those who participated in a survey said drilling for natural gas in our state provides economic opportunity. It was an independent study done by Huntington Bank. They said they wanted to get consumer reaction about the controversial topic.
The bank does business with many of these industry companies through loans and other things. The commercial region manager of the bank said the results would vary if they asked people in certain areas the same question.
"If you look at it in terms of if everyone in Wetzel County were interviewed or were surveyed on this, I don't think anyone in Wetzel County would argue that the shale play hasn't been a big boost or an economic boom for them, or Marshall County, or those counties where there's a lot of activity right now," said Chad Prather, senior vice president.
About 300 people in our state took the on-line survey.
