One Oregon woman has traveled all around the world discussing making good choices. Friday she brought her message to Marion County.
Cara Filler is a world-renowned motivational speaker and on a statewide, 17 school tour called Drive To Save Lives. Her program is geared toward helping high school students resist peer pressure and make smarter choices in their lives. Her upbeat presentation showed students how easily they can avoid some of the toughest situations they normally face at school, parties or while riding in the car. Filler was inspired to start speaking after losing her twin sister in a car accident just a day after their 18th birthday. She hopes her life lessons will stick with students after she leaves. Filler told 5 News; "I hope every school I ever visit in the 18 years of speaking that one student makes a safer choice because of something they have heard from me and then there name will never be a number on a piece of paper that won't become a statistic like my sister did.
Filler is also the founder of the I Spoke Up campaign, a program for people who want to share stories about speaking up for themselves and others.
