A scene erupted after the Clarksburg City Council meeting Thursday night; the result of a speech by councilman Sam "Zeke" Lopez.
Councilwoman Margaret Bailey called for Lopez's resignation during the council's last meeting. In response, Lopez delivered a three-page speech, in which he addressed his arrest in July, calling it "wrongful," and accused other members of the council of trying to gain a political advantage over him because of that arrest. The statement contained a personal attack on Bailey, who fiercely objected, but Lopez was permitted to finish his speech.
Lopez concluded his speech with, "I will not resign from the office to which I was elected and I will not change my views, opinions, or positions on this council as a result of these unfair and unfounded criminal charges and continued efforts to publicly embarrass me by members of this council."
Lopez abruptly made a motion to adjourn the meeting after he finished his speech and rushed out of the room. People who attended the meeting called Lopez's statement "despicable" as he walked past them.
Oct 18, 2013 at 6:03 AMLopez states that "this council's efforts to publicly embarrass him?" Uh, Mr. Lopez, I believe you publicly embarrassed yourself---twice! Once by the arrest which was your own fault and once by your actions/words at city council's meeting.
This is the decade of 'blame someone else' in public office, obviously. This childish attitude runs rampant right now nationwide!!! THIS is the problem. Where have all the 'adults' gone??? We now have an entire congress and administration in DC with the minds of little children. THAT is an embarrassment!
