It's been quite a few months since texting and driving has been illegal. Under the new laws, it's also a secondary offense to be talking on your cell phone while driving your car. In your eyes, it may be in your best interest to pull to the side of the road to use your phone. However, some say that may not be the best decision.
Depending on where you are, it may be just too dangerous to do so. Of course on some roads, getting to the side to pick up your phone is alright; however, highways are a different story.

Since the new laws have taken effect, police have noticed a lot of motorists pulling to the sides to pick up their phones. While this is a better decision than just picking it up as your driving, you are creating some risks if you do this on the high way. On the side roads, pulling over can be safe. Generally there is a designated area for you to do so. On the highways, the sides are meant for emergencies. In some states, there are designated call centers for drivers to pull over. Generally there's not a lot along I-79 in the Mountain State.
While you may think it is safe to pull over on the side of I-79 to answer your phone, think again.
"Well there's a lot more traffic on the highway than there is on secondary roads. The traffic is also driving faster than it does on secondary roads so the highway is a dangerous place any ways because of the speed in which the vehicles are traveling. This would be even more dangerous in the nighttime hours. They should try to find rest areas or an exit to pull off of in order to make a call or take a call," said Weston Police Sgt. J.P. Thomas.
