Friday police in Monongalia County said "thank you" to a student who told officials that a fellow classmate brought a gun to school Thursday morning.
Investigators told 5 News a student brought a 15-year-old student brought a stolen handgun to Morgantown High School Thursday.
Police were able to find that student, who had been reported as a runaway, near the bleachers of the school's football field.
Detectives still aren't sure why the boy brought the gun to school.
Lieutenant Matthew Solomon told 5 News on Friday that the student who alerted administrators to the situation did the right thing.
Solomon said police rely on similar kinds of tips.
"I can't place the value on that help," Solomon said. "We're not mind readers, we cant see into the future. We depend on everyone's eye's ears and knowledge."
5 News also reached out to administrators with the Mon County School District to get a comment on Friday, but they didn't return any calls.
