One of the most common cancers in our area is lung cancer. While smoking is the number one cause of it, the next biggest one is radon exposure.
Radon is believed to be the cause of 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year. It's the leading cause of this cancer in non-smokers. For doctors, they can't necessarily tell if an individual's cancer is caused by radon but when the patient doesn't smoke it's a good chance that's the cause.
While there's no outward signs of radon, you can get your home tested every so often to make sure it's not in your house.
Tests can be picked up at your local hardware store.
