This week is fire prevention week, and local firefighters want you to take time to make a home escape route with your family in case of any emergency.

Every family should have two routes out of their home from every room. You should also designate a meeting spot so that you'll know everyone made it out safely.  Once you set those plans, make sure you practice those escape routes so that if there's a real emergency, everyone's prepared.

You should also check your smoke detectors to make sure they're working. Now if there would be a fire, get out as quickly as possible, and never go back in. If there's smoke, get low and crawl out of your house.

By knowing and practicing all of these safety procedures, you can make sure your family is safe no matter what happens.

You should also check things around your home like fireplaces, cords, and stoves to make sure they are working properly because they could cause a fire otherwise.
