SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - Sissonville High School has stopped offering a prayer before football games after a national organization told school officials the practice is unconstitutional.
Many students and parents don't agree with the decision.
Principal Ron Reedy tells The Charleston Daily Mail that about half of the school's 650 students wore purple on Friday to show their support for the pre-game prayer.
Fans on the Sissonville side recited The Lord's Prayer after the National Anthem was played at Friday night's football game.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter to Kanawha County Schools Superintendent Ron Duerring last week saying the pre-game prayer must be stopped. The letter cites five U.S. Supreme Court decisions regarding mandatory or school-led prayer at school events.

Each one of these kids 'can' pray before their games and even in the classroom. God hears our prayers even our thoughts. We can and do pray everywhere in school and these ignorant atheists don't even know it. Bet that drives them insane. God hears us without speaking the words out loud. Every christian child I know still prays in schools. They are wasting their time because it accomplishes nothing. We as christians are 'smarter than the serpent.'

And "Why" are people listening to a small minority of 'atheist' organization anyway? Since when does a few get to get everything they want and the majority just gives up?? The Freedom from religion foundation is not anymore 'relevant' than any other small group and who died and made them the law over the majority?

These ignorant people must like having bullying, suicides and killings in schools over respect, honor, morals, values and manners. The violence in our schools did not happen "Until" the minority God-haters aka atheists started foolishly demanding that the prayers be taken out of schools. They wanted God removed and now they complain because satan has entered. You can't have it both ways. It's one or the other. When do christians stop taking orders from the small insignificant minority atheists? When good people give up...there will always be evil wicked ones willing to take over. Your children are not worth this fight? Pathetic. These people are so miserable themselves...they can do nothing but live to make others lives just as miserable. Homeschooling looks better and better all the time. WV parents over past 5 years have been pulling their children out of public schools and Dept of education wonders why?

This is ridiculous. Why can't people just mind their own business and let these students decide if they want to participate or not. Insisting on "No Prayer" isn't that taking away from the freedom of speech, freedom to make your own choices. SMH... Truly sad what our world has become. Funny thing is that it isn't the majority that make these changes, it is the ones with the biggest mouths... just to keep them quiet we go along with it... really sad... I will pray for you...
