Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, who's in the middle of her term in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced that she plans to take on political mainstay Jay Rockefeller in the race for his Senate seat in 2014.
Capito, who celebrated her 59th birthday Monday, has served in the House for twelve years.
She admitted that she's been thinking about a Senate run for a while.  To get to the Senate she will have to beat Rockefeller who's held the job since 1984.  Rockefeller has not announced if he plans to run again in 2014.
Regardless, Capito is promising voters that she will stand up to the EPA and work with Democrats to come up with the best legislation possible for the people of our state.
5 News has reached out to Senator Rockefeller's camp for their response to all this, but they haven't gotten back to us.

In a statement, Club for Growth PAC President Chris Chocola likened Capito to establishment 2012 Senate candidates like Reps. Denny Rehberg and Rick Berg and former Rep. Heather Wilson: "All three had the 'right' resumes, and all three had no 'divisive' primaries. Yet all three lost in races that were thought to be winnable," Chocola said. "The way back for the Republican Party is the way of Jeff Flake, Ted Cruz, Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio, Ron Johnson, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee."
So far, Rockefeller hasn't voiced his plans for the future. In a statement obtained by CBSNews.com, he confirmed that "Congresswoman Capito called last week to let me know of her plans," which he said he "appreciated."  Click Here to read more.
