A local church has donated $700 to the Shinnston Police Department so they can get a new bulletproof vest.

What a lot of people don't realize is they wear out just like anything else. If an officer doesn't have a vest that's in good condition it could cost them their life.

The pastor from the Coon's Run Baptist Church told 5 News they do everything they can for the community. This money came directly from the people inside the church. They voted on helping the police department out and everyone in the church community instantly agreed.

"We are involved in community that's our job, community. One of the biggest parts of our community is our police department. The protection they give us we want to share back with them," said Pastor Allen Burnsworth, Coon's Run Baptist Church.

"We're very thankful to have such wonderful people within the community. It's saving a life and protecting us," said Officer Chris Harris, Shinnston Police Department.

This church plans to continue to help the community.
