In a continuing effort to keep bath salts out of our area, the city of Shinnston will likely pass an ordinance banning bath salts.
In a planning session Monday, council decided to follow in the footsteps of Clarksburg and possibly pass an ordinance of their own. This all started a couple weeks ago at a Harrison County Mayors' Association meeting. The county is a hot spot for bath salt use, and officials want you to know you'll pay if you're caught selling or possessing them.
Should the ordinance pass a fine up to $500 can be slapped in the hands of the violator. Officials also hope the county commission will pass a similar ban.
"We're just trying to be proactive - give our police officers a tool that can help combat this form of crime," said Mayor Sammy DeMarco.
A council member suggested increasing the fine, before they make their final decision.
