Several people were startled in Grant Town last week by a man going door to door claiming to be selling everything from vacuums to magazines. The man hit 10 to 12 homes in the small community last Monday and Tuesday and apparently tried to force himself into several of the homes.
Luckily the folks in Grant Town did the right thing by not letting the man into their homes.
Police started receiving reports about a strange solicitor from residents early last week. The man claimed to be a salesman and tried to persuade several residents to let him into their homes. It is unclear why he wanted to enter the homes, but police say he used several different excuses from wanting to show them the item being sold inside to asking to use the restroom in the home. Police also say that he was with a group of people driving a green Ford Expedition with Pennsylvania tags. After a second day of these reports, Police Chief Matthew Biggie patrolled the town to try to catch up with the group but was unsuccessful.
The town does have an ordinance that requires door-to-door solicitors to get a permit at town hall. Town officials were not aware of this man having a permit. The group has not been seen since last Tuesday but if you do see them or the vehicle, call police immediately.
If someone knocks on your door and is not able to show you a permit or some kind of ID, lock your door and call police.
