You have less than a week to file your taxes, so for those last minute people out there make sure you make plans to get them done.
Tax advisors from Liberty Tax Services in Clarksburg told 5 News what to do to make sure they get done in time, whether you choose to do them online or in a store. Monday April 15 is when everything is due, but if you're not ready you can file for an extension.
The extension is still due in just a few days, but if you file one you will have until October to finish filing your taxes. All you need to do to file an extension is to give a tax consultant your name and social security number. If your name has changed for any reason, make sure the name on your social security card is changed too or else there could be some problems. If you just want to get your taxes done and you go to a store, bring in every type of form you have, especially W2's for income, and information for any type of loan. The biggest piece of advice 5 News was given Thursday was to make sure you actually file your taxes. A lot of people have already, but there are still thousands of people who haven't.
Liberty Tax employees said to stop by for a free estimate anytime, but make sure you hurry.
"The main reason to file is the majority of us get a refund back and that's money that you worked very hard for. You deserve to get everything back that you've paid in. So that's the most important reason, to get a refund. Also, now at the DMV you can use your 1040 and W2 as part of your identification. So that's another good reason to have it," said Connie Stemple, Office Manager at Liberty Tax Services in Clarksburg.
