Turn Your Christmas Tree into Fish Habitat By Recycling

The holiday season is over and it's officially time to start taking down Christmas trees and decorations.

Instead of throwing away your tree this year, you can put it to good use by recycling.

The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority started accepting Christmas trees on Wednesday. There's a large bin outside of the main building where people can drop off their live cut trees.

All people need to do is make sure trees are free of any decorations and then toss them in the bin. The trees will be dropped into Tygart Lake, and Cheat lake, so they can create more fish habitats.

Jessica Maple is the Executive Director of the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority. She said, "Fish habitats are being recreated so the fish will have a place to feed, hide and reproduce."

Trees can be dropped off until January 8.
