A smile was brought to veterans faces on Valentine's Day, when they all received cards from different groups around town including your 5 News team. Valentines For Veterans is the name of the program and if you've never heard of it before the program is in its 32nd year and was started by writer Ann Landers.
Over the years with the help of this program, over a 100,000 cards have been sent to VA hospitals nationwide including right here in Clarksburg.
James Callvis who is a patient at the VA hospital was very excited to get a Valentines Day card and he "appreciated it"
In addition to Valentines for Veterans, this is also National Salute To Veterans Patients Week. The goal is to increase volunteerism and recognize the patients who are visiting our vets.
Thomas Gallagher the Chief Of Volunteer Services at the Clarksburg VA says  "Its basically an open house for groups to come in and visit and see patients and stuff. When they see what we do and what opportunities are available, hopefully it opens up avenues for new volunteers to see the need here at the VA medical center and come volunteer.
For more on volunteer opportunities with the VA visit their website www.volunteer.va.gov .
