Workforce West Virginia recently got almost $2 million from the federal government to help them open public computer labs in their offices.
A few of those labs have opened already, including the one in Elkins. Anyone in the area can come and use the computers for free.
Workforce officials said they hope to help people without internet or computer access.

The grant  went toward the $2.5 million project. This all started in 2009, and is finally getting finished.
People in the area can come in and use the lab for homework, job applications, or even to skype with others.
The office in Elkins has about a dozen computers, including one that's specifically for handicapped people.
"Rural West Virginia is extremely challenged in access to broadband. It's cost prohibitive for a lot of people, and we offer free service here. A lot of the kids don't have the internet at home, and teachers assume everyone's got that access, so if they need a spot to come and do homework, this is it. A lot of employers require you apply online or that you fax a resume or e-mail a resume, and we have those services also," said Ellen Prehoda, a broadband system monitor at Workforce West Virginia.

If you'd like to check out the computer lab, you can head there during their regular business hours Monday through Friday, as well as from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
