The Clarksburg Water Board recently received a prestigious award. It's called the Area-Wide Optimization Program award.

It was presented to them by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, the Bureau for Public Health and the Office of Environmental Health Services for its filter plant turbidity performance and commitment to excellence.

The AWOP is a national filter plant optimization effort the EPA and the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators supports. It can be found in 21 states. The AWOP award is based on an outstanding effort toward optimizing water plant performance.

“The AWOP award demonstrates the continuous commitment by the staff, management and Board to supply the highest quality of drinking water to our customers. We are very pleased that our drinking water quality and our staff’s performance to maintain that quality has been recognized by the drinking water community," said Dick Welch, the CWB General Manager.

The honor is given to surface water plants that achieve the goals set forth by the program when it comes to settled and filtered water. These efforts also provide extra protection against waterborne diseases by going above and beyond the EPA’s regulatory standards.
