Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy ============================================================ Myanmar Cyclone Kills Thousands ![]() ![]() A devastating cyclone in Myanmar killed close to 4,000 people over the weekend with another 3000 missing in its aftermath, the state media reported. The self isolated military junta in power in the Southeast Asian nation has taken the highly unusual step of asking for massive outside assistance in response to the humanitarian crisis there. Cyclone Nargis, seen in the satellite photo below, wreaked havoc on the Burmese coastline with 150 mph winds on Friday night and Saturday morning, dumping more than 20 inches of rain. Massive flooding has ensued in the region and the risk of disease now threatens to kill thousands more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Morning Folks, Starting the morning off with showers in the area as a low pressure system continues to move off to the east. Showers and drizzle will stick around through the day; along with clouds. Chilly today also, with a high of only 60 degrees thanks to a cold front that pushed through last night. Temperatures stay chilly into tonight with a low of 46 degrees. As we move into Saturday; clearing is expected for the first half of the day while a slight chance of showers arise for the afternoon into the evening. The showers will then stick around into Sunday. Monday clearing for the whole day with mild temperatures in the 60's. Have a wonderful weekend! Whitney Kent |
